Hobart Rivulet Walk

If you have an hour or two to spare, a pleasant way to reach the Female Factory from central Hobart is to walk up the Hobart Rivulet. The rivulet was the main water supply for early Hobart Town, and a wide variety of homes and businesses stretched along its length.

The walk can be accessed from Molle Street and follows the rivulet, shaded for much of its length by large trees. Interpretive signs along the route offer historical details. It takes around half an hour to reach the Female Factory, and continues through the lovely Cascade Gardens to the famous Cascade Brewery.

From there, the adventurous may explore the area, continue into the foothills of the Mount Wellington Park, take refreshment at any one of the cafes or watering holes that line the South Hobart strip along Macquarie Street, or return via the track, another route or public transport.
