Everyone at the Cascades Female Factory Historic Site was immensely proud when Judith and Chris Cornish won the People’s Choice Award at the Tasmanian Tourism Awards recently for their long-running theatrical walking tour Louisa’s Walk.
Louisa’s Walk is no longer available, but Her Story at the Cascades Female Factory Historic Site is recommended for anyone interested in finding out about the stories of Australia’s women convicts while visiting Hobart.
Louisa’s Walk told the story of a woman convicted and transported from England to Van Diemens Land, giving an emotional and compelling insight into how women ended up in places like the Cascades Female Factory.
Louisa’s Walk took visitors from outside the historic Cascades Brewery in South Hobart, down the rivulet through Cascades Gardens and concluded at the Cascades Female Factory. In the ten years that Chris and Judith, from Live History Hobart, operated the walking tour, it grew to be one of the most popular activities for visitors to Hobart and was highly rated on popular travel review websites.
Chris and Judith decided to stop offering Louisa’s Walk recently, but continue to offer Her Story at the Cascades Female Factory. Her Story continues the saga of a convict woman’s experiences and tribulations while incarcerated in the Cascades Female Factory, and has also been highly rated by thousands of visitors since they started offering it at the World Heritage-listed historic site in early 2012.
Her Story is performed daily at midday at the Cascades Female Factory Historic Site in South Hobart.
It is rated in the top ten things to do in Hobart on travel review site TripAdvisor.
