The Cascades Female Factory is hosting our annual Open Day to coincide with Mother’s Day on Sunday 14 May.
With FREE ENTRY and activities, why not bring Mum along and join us to discover stories of the convict women and their children that were transported to Van Diemen’s Land. For those revisiting, come and rediscover the historic site which has had significant improvements to the conservation and interpretation since being included as one of the Australian World Heritage Convict Sites.
Various activities are planned throughout the day including a brief theatrical performance from the actors in the very popular “Her Story”, which tells the story of the life of a convict woman who was incarcerated at the Cascades Female Factory.
The Matron’s Cottage will be open to all containing a number of displays and possibly even an appearance by the Matron herself. Dr Christina Henri will be available to discuss her long-term project “Roses from the Heart” which commemorates the female convicts transported to Australia, with a number of bonnets on display.
Children’s activities will be offered and there will be a BBQ and refreshments available for sale. The site will be open from 9.30am to 4pm with Heritage tours running at 10am, 11am, 12pm, 1pm, 2pm and 3pm at the normal cost of $15.00 (child, concession and family tickets also available).
