Female Convicts Research Centre

The Female Convicts Research Centre Inc is an international hub promoting research into the lives of convict women and their families in Van Diemen’s Land. Free membership is open to anyone interested in this research, and members register through our website.

Registered members have free internet access to the ever-expanding database, Female Convicts in Van Diemen’s Land. Volunteers who would like to work on the database as transcribers are always welcome.

Twice each year the Research Centre holds day-long seminars designed to share and showcase the research of members. These seminars are open to the public, and details about forthcoming seminars are available on the website.

In 2010 the Research Centre established Convict Women’s Press Inc, a unique not-for-profit publishing company dedicated to publishing stories about the lives of convict women and their families. Books have been published about women at the Cascades, Launceston, and Ross Female Factories, and are available either as paperbacks or e-books.

The Female Convict Research Centre website is at www.femaleconvicts.org.au
