Sunday 21st June 2:00pm, Cascades Female Factory Historic Site
Women convicts were more than their sentences – they were daughters, mothers, survivors, and storytellers of extraordinary resilience. Discover one such life in From Fields of Stone, by Isabel de la Rambelya. In her book, you’ll hear the remarkable story of Nappy King, who was one of thousands of women transported to Van Diemen’s Land during the Irish Famine, and one of the few to bring a child with them.
Join us on Sunday 21 June at 2pm at the Cascades Female Factory for this special book launch and celebration. Isabel will share insights from her deeply personal, two-decade journey tracing her great-great-grandmother’s life, illuminating the human cost of the Irish Famine and the realities of convict experience in Van Diemen’s Land. The event will also feature a moving musical tribute, with Isabel’s sister performing an original song inspired by Nappy King’s story.
Don’t miss this powerful afternoon of history, storytelling and song, honouring a woman whose life has been reclaimed from the margins.
There is no cost to attend, and no need to book – simply arrive at the Cascades Female Factory at 16 Degraves St in South Hobart at 2pm. Call 1800 139 478 for more information.
