Curriculum Guide
The Cascades Female Factory and our education programs align with the Australian Curriculum primarily in the areas of Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS) and History. Our Curriculum Guide identifies curriculum links with Version 8.4 and Version 9.0 of the Australian Curriculum and includes suggested elaborations that relate to our site.
Online
The Cascades Female Factory Historic Site and the Port Arthur Historic Site feature in ABC Education’s online ‘digibook’ resource, ‘The Colonisation of Hobart’. To access, please follow the link: ABC Education Digibook – The Colonisation of Hobart
Discovery Boxes
The Discovery Boxes give your students the first-hand experience of the convict system, without leaving the classroom. This resource includes two traveling boxes filled with authentic convict artefacts, photos, maps, books, information and a list of additional items that relate to both Port Arthur and Cascades Female Factory. A teaching pack is also included.
The Discovery Boxes are available to Tasmanian schools and can be borrowed free of charge for 2–4 weeks.
Boxes must be collected (no postage or shipping available) from the Cascades Female Factory Site in South Hobart.
Bookings are essential. Please contact the Education team for more information or to request to loan the Discovery Boxes.
