Drop-in session
Sunday 16th March 2:30-4:30pm, Cascades Female Factory Historic Site
Try your hand at spinning and weaving with members of the Handweavers, Spinners and Dyers Guild of Tasmania during this free drop-in session.
Spinning and preparing wool for weaving were some of the tasks convict women were expected to carry out during their time at the Cascades Female Factory. This type of work was intended to keep the women occupied while also practicing what were thought to be useful domestic skills. The clothing and blankets that they made contributed to the needs of the Convict Department. Textiles continue to be a significant artform and an important part of the history of Tasmania.
Join us as we learn and explore these connections between the past and the present.
Attendance is free with site entry.
