Exclusive Book Signing Event at the Cascades Female Factory

Tuesday 28th January 12:30pm, Cascades Female Factory Historic Site

Explore the compelling stories of resilience and survival in early colonial Australia as we welcome author and Honorary Research Associate Professor Lynne Hume for an exclusive presentation and book signing of her novel ‘Strumpets of the Worst Kind’ on Tuesday, 28th January, at 12:30 pm at the Cascades Female Factory Historic Site in South Hobart.

‘Strumpets of the Worst Kind’ begins in London, 1836. Maggie Burnett, imprisoned in the grim Newgate Gaol, finds herself sentenced to transportation alongside two fellow inmates, Sarah Hamilton and Agnes MacDonald. Together, they embark on a perilous voyage to Van Diemen’s Land, where new challenges await. From the dangerous confines of the Female Factory to the harsh realities of a land where men outnumber women seven to one, these women must navigate loneliness, violence, and the convict stain that may follow them forever.

Inspired by true events and meticulously researched, Lynne Hume brings authenticity to this tale of courage, rebellion, and compromise in early colonial Tasmania.

Don’t miss this opportunity to hear Lynne Hume discuss her research and inspiration behind Strumpets of the Worst Kind, followed by a book signing. Copies of the book will be available for purchase at the event.

This is a must-attend for history enthusiasts, book lovers, and anyone interested in the untold stories of Tasmania’s convict women.
